Configuring Outlook 2003

This document describes how to configure your POP e-mail reader to access our mail system. Since Outlook is one of the most popular readers out there, we will use it in our examples. Different mail programs will have very similar settings. Refer to the users manuals of these programs to configure them with these procedures.

Step 1 - Run Outlook

In windows 2000, and XP you should see an icon on your desktop that looks like the following:

Outlook 2003

You can also run it from Start/Programs/Microsoft Office

Step 2 - Configure your new account

Once you have loaded Outlook, click on the Tools menu, then E-mail Accounts. You should see a dialog box similar to the following:

Outlook 2003

Make sure "View or change existing e-mail accounts" is checked and press NEXT.

Outlook 2003

Click Add. The following dialog should then appear:

Outlook 2003

Make sure you have POP3 checked and press NEXT.

Outlook 2003

Type in your name in the space provided. This allows people to see a name in their e-mail from you instead of just an e-mail address.

Type in your e-mail address as provided to you by your Post Office (e-mail) administrator.

For "Incoming mail server (POP3)", type "mail.adconn.com" and the same for "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)

Then click More Settings to get the following dialog box (click the Outgoing Server Tab)

Outlook 2003

Check the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and the box next to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"

Press OK and Next and your configuration should be complete!
